Pearl pigment is almost suitable for all natural and synthetic resin .It can compound into a type of solvent,the base type of water and pearl paint of the powder type with these resin.Using the magical color pearl pigment also can make the excellent decorative magical color paint.In the process of manufacturing and using of the paint,magical color pigment are mainly used in highclass furniture,interior wall or board decoration,it is also can be used in the decoration of light chemicals.Nomatter what paint recipes,it should pass different principles gaining magical lines.For example,add certain surface activator,reduce the surface tension to produce lines when coating;It can produce lines according to the difference of the speed of solvent volatilization that make difference of surface tension at different areas of coating layers.It also can produce lines according to polarity difference of solvent and water base type coating and different solubility.

Pearl pigment has extremely high light refraction index,pearl luster effect and visual sparkle effect,so it provides the designer of paint craft with a large space to create new color and decorative effect. Not only Silver white pearl pigment can give bright pearl luster to the coating layer,but also can creat decorative effect according to the bottom layer.The deeper the bottom layer,the more metal luster it can show;The lower the base proportion of coating pigment,the larger the pigment of base coating can show through subtle pearl layer. Pearl pigment can provide new,interesting color and hue separately,magic pearl pigment with interference color not only compound into pearl paint with resin,but also can be compound into pearl pigment paint with usual transparent paint.Morever,the base color of titanium pearl pigment has played an important role in the decorative coating .

The properties of pearl pigment

Pearl pigment is the pigment that the mica flakes coated with metal oxide that can produce pearl luster ,it is non-acid,non-alkai,and high temperature resist which reaches to 900 degrees.It is not self-ignite and not combustion-support,endure arc and have good stableness.

Recipes:

According to the expecting effect ,we should add an amount of pearl pigment.As for the amount of solid,the amount of pearl pigment is usually 10-25% of the weight.As for special effect or coating layer with luster,the amount can reach to 40%,but we don’t recommend adding the pigment,because it can stop the choice of  crystalline pigment and bring the loss of coating luster .Sometimes it only needs 1%-1.5% of solid weight pearl pigment that can make varnish coating layer brighter.

Wet and scatter

In order to make pearl pigment scatter easily,we can wet in advance.The time for wetting is more than 15 minutes.Firstly,we recommend using powder pigment and liquid system,or solvent that can mix together,diluent or plasticizer that can mix into slurry,then mix the slurry equally into the left part.

Similar to metal powder,pearl pigment can be scattered with general beater.The right mixing method is :put pearl powder into carrier which has low shearing force, axial flow mixing.It is forbidden to put the pigment once,we should pour foot by foot.When the first part has wetted fully,we can add in the following till all are wetted.Finally we have to mix about 15 minutes to make the pigment scatter easily.

We can mix with revolving axes,and the pigment amount should below 25%,the speed isn’t too fast.In the process of mixing,the height of stirring arm should different change to avoid mixing unequivalentlly in the hiding space of the below place.

 Lamellite estate and corresponding brittleness of pigment only permit scattering with low shearing force.The machines using mixing general pigment,such as roller grind,ball grind or stone grind and so on are not allowed to be used,because these machines can destroy Lamellite estate of pigments and bring loss of luster.If we use scatter machine,it is only permitted shorter mixing time.We recommend that we should use equivalent mixing time and speed in the same situation to produce coating for each batch.

Stableness

Generally pearl pigment can’t produce flocculater.There are two methods that can reduce the deposition when pigment is in painting system:

1.As stated in the previous paragraph,we can avoid pigment focusing according to good wetting and scattering.

2.Make the pigment suspend well on the carrier.

Only can use those organic thixotropic agent such as organic modification bentonite, polyethylene wax and others which can bring little destroy to pearl pigment.We don’t recomment using pyrolysis method silicic acid,because it is delusterant,although we use little it can reduce luster and color effect obviously.

Sometimes this kind of pigment with heavy weight and Lamellite sinking can’t avoid using  flocculant to form flocculanting phenomenon that can manage.That will change into relax,easily scatter deposit,it will be unstable in the outside force and can be easily mixed and return to equivalent coating mixings.

The choice of particle size

Pearl pigment has different particle size range.The difference of particle size can effect the luster ,hiding power and appearance of paint.

If the particle size of pigment become bigger,the twinkling can become strong.The ideal particle size range is 10-60um.Big particle size ,it can show twinkling effect and low hiding power;Small particle size can show soft effect and big hiding power.

Color concocting

Pearl pigment can be mixed with the common pigment, then creat kinds of bright,high purity of chromaticity pigment, eg: phthalocyanine blue, phthalocyanine green and so on

Notice: don’t use too much colorant, because pearl luster will be covered in the angle of reflection due to excessive asorbing to color fo light

Hiding power

There are several methods in the recipe that can improve the hiding power:

A:Pearl powder with small particle size can improve the hiding power.However,the pearl effect is soft satin and twinkling effect is not obvious.If we want to get ideal pearl luster and hiding power,we can use pearl powder with small particle size instead of pearl powder that has big particle size.

B:We can improve the hiding power when we add metal powder in paint,such as: aluminium powder,copper powder,generally the amount is 5-10% of pearl pigment.

C:When we blend deep color,a small amount of carbon black can improve good hiding power.We can improve the reflection color of pearl luster when add black color.

D:When we blend light color,we can get good help if we use Tio2,however,the pearl effect will become weak ,so if we use Tio2,we should increase the amount of pearl pigment to strengthen the reflection color.However the amount of Tio2 should small and can just deal with hiding power.

Attention:Non-transparent pigment or dyestuff can reduce pearl luster effect.

Conclusion:

Pearl pigment is colorful,not only has soft satin luster,but also had twinkling light and metal luster. We can get ideal pearl effect according to the following three principles.

propriety amount pearl pigment can get many reflection/transmission layer,and can produce good pearl luster.

1.Try your best to make the pigment wafer parallel arrangement and reach the best mirror reflection

2.The lacquer finish should be transparent and can make the ray in and out freely.

3. lacquer material should be transparent, so that the light can be go in and out freely.
